2. Risk assessment

Identification of key business risks

Increasing competition for financial resources in clinical cancer research remains a major business risk, particularly as the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SBFI) faces pressure to reduce research funding.

Another significant risk is that future studies in Switzerland might no longer be conducted in collaboration with the Swiss Cancer Institute.

Risk management

During the 2025 financial year the Board held seven regular meetings and four short extraordinary meetings.
The assessment of the ten most significant risks for the 2025 financial year was carried out by management at the end of the previous year.

3. Order situation and project pipeline

In 2025 the Swiss Cancer Institute managed a large portfolio of clinical studies. In total, SCI coordinated 64 studies, 36 of which were actively recruiting patients, enrolling 791 patients.

4. Research and development activities

Oncology remains a key growth driver for the pharmaceutical industry.
The pharmaceutical market currently shows no signs of contraction.

5. Extraordinary events

In 2025 the Board realigned the organisation’s strategy.
The renaming of SAKK to Swiss Cancer Institute helps communicate the mission more clearly.

6. Outlook

For 2026 and beyond, the Swiss Cancer Institute remains committed to strengthening its role as a leading organisation for innovative clinical trials.
